A tough end to a tough race. #Repost @alex_thomson_racing @route_du_rhum - After 11 days, 23 hours, 10 minutes and 58 seconds, Alex finished the Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe becoming the fourth skipper to cross the line and the first IMOCA! However, due to having enabled his engine after running aground Alex received a 24 hour time penalty from the race organisation, and consequently he has not officially won the IMOCA class. - Alex said "It’s something to learn from, the land of hard knocks .. it is a shame, it is a real shame. And I am obviously devastated and disappointed... but the reality is there are lots of positives. Clearly we have the fastest boat, clearly I sailed a great race and I’m here more than 12 hours before anybody else. - I hope Paul Meilhat wins, he will be a wonderful winner. He is a great guy, and has sailed a marvelous race on his boat without foils and I will be very proud to welcome him as the winner of this race… " - #rorcracing #routedurhum

“Plymouth to host the 2019 Rolex Fastnet Race.” - Plymouth City Council and the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) have confirmed that Plymouth will host the finish of the 2019 Rolex Fastnet race. - Plymouth has marked the end of the biennial yacht race since its inception in 1925. Starting in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, competitors cover a course of 608 nautical miles and round the Fastnet Rock off the southwest coast of Ireland before returning via the Isles of Scilly to finish in Plymouth. The race has a huge worldwide following and has seen continued growth over recent years, with the limit of 300 boats having to be increased to over 340 due to high demand. - Deputy Leader of the Council, Pete Smith said: “I’m delighted that the Rolex Fastnet is returning to its historic home once again in 2019. We are working closely with the organisers of the Rolex Fastnet race, the Royal Ocean Racing Club, to enhance the experience of the thousands of sailors who arrive in Plymouth after competing in the race.” - Yachts come from all over the world to compete in the race which will start on Saturday 3 August 2019. The first yachts are expected to arrive in Plymouth in the early hours of Monday 5 August. The Plymouth race village will be located at Yacht Haven at Mount Batten and will be open to the public from Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 August, with live music, family friendly activities and opportunities for local people to try their hand at on-water activities like sailing, kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboarding. - #RolexFastnetRace

In 10 days, the RORC Transatlantic Race gets underway from Lanzarote! - Franco Niggeler's Swiss Cookson 50 Kuka 3 is one of the favourites for the overall win decided by yachts racing under the IRC Rating Rule for the RORC Transatlantic Race Trophy. - "This will be my first Atlantic crossing and the first part of a project including the RORC Caribbean 600, the Transpac and the Rolex Sydney Hobart," commented Kuka 3's owner Niggeler. "The first few days will be very important with difficult tactical choices which could decide the outcome of the race. Our aim is to do as well as possible as we have a competitive boat and it is up to us to get the best out of it." - 📸 ROLEX/Kurt Arrigo Photography - #rorctransatlanticrace #freetowonder

Francis Joyon has taken line honours and set a new record time for the 3,542-nautical mile Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe! 🏆 - In the clammy heat and very light winds of the Caribbean night, Joyon, 62, glided across the finish line on IDEC Sport at 23:21.47 local time (03:21.47 UTC) to pip the poster boy of French sailing, François Gabart on MACIF by just seven minutes and eight seconds. - #RouteDuRhum 📸 Jean-Marie Liot/Route Du Rhum . . . #racing #yachting #blue #instayacht #yachtrace #boats #yachtinglifestyle #yachts #instagood #instagram #harbour #waves #sailinglife #spring #sailing #sea #boat #yacht #travel #sailaway #sun #windy #water #travelphotography #bosphorus #sail #beach #routedurhum2018

Return of Athos and the Flying Machines. - A spectacular edition awaits the RORC Caribbean 600 2019. The largest yacht competing will be the 203ft schooner Athos, returning to the race after her round the world adventure. Three of the world's fastest multihulls will also be taking part, Argo, Maserati Multi70, and PowerPlay. - With an overall length of 203ft, Athos is the world's largest privately-owned two-masted schooner. From the drawing board of Hoek Design Naval Architects and built by Holland Jachtbouw, Athos has a displacement of 348 tons and can hoist nearly 33,000 sq. ft. of downwind sail area from its rig, which towers over 200ft above her teak decks. - Athos competed in the RORC Caribbean 600 every year from 2013 to 2015 before setting off on a four-year round the world trip. After leaving Antigua, Athos passed through the Panama Canal into the Pacific, visiting some phenomenal locations including: Galapagos, French Polynesia, Micronesia, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, Indonesia, Palau, Singapore, Thailand, and Maldives. Athos arrived back in the Mediterranean in May 2018 and plans to depart for Antigua at the beginning of December to take part in the 2019 RORC Caribbean 600. - #Caribbean600 . . . #racing #yachting #blue #instayacht #yachtrace #boats #yacht #yachts #instagood #instagram #ocean #waves #sailinglife #spring #sailing #sea #boat #yacht #travel #caribbean #sun #windy #water #travelphotography #antigua #sail #beach #drone #barbuda

#Breaking #RouteduRhum - Armel Le Cléac’h has capsized in his maxi trimaran, Banque Populaire IX, in the most serious incident yet to hit the fleet as the skippers contend with a major storm in the Atlantic. - The boat appears to have capsized after its port float broke off. Le Cléac’h managed to trigger his distress beacon and was able to speak to his shore team. The Gris Nez maritime and rescue coordination centre in northern France has taken control of the rescue with the Race Director and the Banque Populaire team. The skipper is reported to be safe in the hull of the boat. - More news as it comes in. - 📷 @scanvoile . . . #racing #yachting #blue #instayacht #yachtrace #boats #yachtinglifestyle #yachts #instagood #instagram #harbour #waves #sailinglife #spring #sailing #sea #boat #yacht #travel #sailaway #sun #windy #water #oceans #bosphorus #sail #multihull #RouteduRhum2018

#Repost @ircrating - The winner of the 2018 Rolex Middle Sea Race, Géry Trentesaux’s Courrier Recommandé! 🏆⛵️ - With neither of the two boats still at sea able to overhaul the corrected time of the French JPK11.80, Trentesaux adds the laurels of the Mediterranean’s highly-regarded 600-mile offshore classic to the Rolex Fastnet victory he achieved in 2015, and his many other successes. - Second place overall has been secured by the Czech entry Bohemia Praha Debra, the Figaro II, owned by Milan Tomek, which corrected out four hours behind. Another French entry, the MN43 Albator, skippered by Philippe Frantz, took the final spot on the podium. Trentesaux and his crew will be awarded the Rolex Middle Sea Race trophy and Rolex timepiece at the final prize giving on Saturday, 27 October in the historic Sacra Infermeria, Valletta. - Trentesaux is one of France’s most successful racing yachtsmen. Following his victory at the Rolex Fastnet in 2015, Trentesaux announced at the prize giving - to the relief of many rival sailors - that he was retiring from offshore competition. So, it was a pleasant surprise for the Royal Malta Yacht Club to have such an esteemed sailor come out of ‘retirement’ to participate in its celebratory race. “I said that I would stop racing offshore after the 2015 Rolex Fastnet Race,” explained the softly-spoken Trentesaux. “However, for me, offshore racing is an addiction. I started when I was 14, I love the atmosphere and I could not resist coming to the Rolex Middle Sea Race this year.” Trentesaux has only taken part in the race once before, in 1982, when he was 23 and had just completed his military service. - #rorcracing #RolexMiddleSeaRace . . . #racing #yachting #blue #instayacht #yachtrace #boats #yachtinglifestyle #yachts #instagood #instagram #harbour #waves #sailinglife #spring #sailing #sea #boat #yacht #travel #sailaway #sun #windy #water #travelphotography #bosphorus #sail #beach
