Captivating Duel for New MOD70s
The Rolex Fastnet Race will see an exciting battle on the water between two of the first MOD70 trimarans: Legendary French yachtsman, Roland Jourdain on Veolia Environnement and Stève Ravussin with British round the world record holder, Dee Caffari racing on Race for Water. It will be a captivating duel on equal terms within a fleet of 350 boats!
This will be the first time that Breton skipper, Roland Jourdain has raced on board a multihull in the Fastnet Race and it will also be the first race for the team on Veolia Environnement.
While Jourdain is aware that the Rolex Fastnet Race will be a trial run for the new boat, he also knows he needs to pull out all the stops: "Once the start gun has been fired, we'll be going as fast as we can and we'll also be out to get across the line ahead of Race for Water and they will be doing likewise. In a way, we'll be having our own little race in a race because, out on the course Race for Water will obviously be our direct rival. Watch out for some action-packed moments at sea," says Jourdain.
Swiss skipper of the MOD70, Race for Water, Stève Ravussin will be joined by a crew including British round the world record holder, Dee Caffari. The Rolex Fastnet Race will be the second official race for the boat after their recent victory in the Stockholm Gotland Race in Sweden. "The Rolex Fastnet is a fantastic race and the racing format I like. It is a kind of fast marathon, almost a sprint race, that requires good tactics and navigation and gives some good adrenaline to your body," says Ravussin. "It will be special for our new class as well, as it will be a first official encounter between two MOD70's. I am really looking forward to competing against Roland Jourdain."
The MOD70 Race for Water is the ambassador boat of the Multi One Attitude Foundation. The foundation dedicated to water preservation has chosen to use sailing as an innovative and engaging platform to raise awareness and educate public opinion.
