Crew member on GBR8338 With Alacrity

Here we go again, Fastnet 2015 onboard With Alacrity with the WARTs and

WARTettes Yesterday started with a leisurely breakfast in Hamble with the

talk on the tables about..... you guessed it how long will we be out and

how much water to take. This was also a source of some debate amongst the

WARTs and WARTettes and a magic number was settled on.

The start was an entertaining drift taking us 12 mins to cross the line and

we eventually reached Hurst with Class Zero and other large boats with

their black support ribs zipping about with their helicopters. That was

part one of the race plan executed getting out of the Solent.

For the armchair critics why did we go to Swanage? We thought Skippy was

taking us for ice creams alas it was for wind and tidal advantage but

apparently Skippy confused his headlands it was the next one along - Doh!

Magical mystery tour complete we quickly rejoined the rest of the fleet.

Skippy then decided that he wanted us to try some extreme anchoring off

Portland, so out went 150 metres of chain and warp. What I can tell you is

it goes out very quick, what I can also say is that whatever was on the

seabed provided no holding power as our anchor skipped gayly along. So up

it all came again. The rest of the night was spent trimming hard in the

fickle breeze.

On our first sunrise of the Fastnet who appeared on the horizon but Percy

(Persephone). What a come back after they missed the first mark and had to

go back against the tide - game on!

We look forward to the launch of our secret weapon before lunch, ice

creams courtesy of Pedro.
