Crew member on GBR8872R Challenger 2

Day 1

Fin Proctor

Spirits were high as the crew awoke to light winds and sunshine on the first

day, breakfast was the usual (a couple of cups of tea followed by cereal)

then the morning brief lead by our skipper Adam during which he explained

how the start would work and how this was the real thing so it was time to

get our "race faces" on.

The crew emerged on the deck of our Tall Ships Challenged 72 wearing our new

OneFathom team t-shirts and jackets and looking smart. After a couple of

hours preparing the boat we slipped lines and headed out of Cowes for the

offshore safety inspection. I had been assigned as designated photographer

and proceeded to clamber round the boat trying not to get in the way of any

of the headsail changes or tacking paraphernalia. I have to say I was quite

nervous at the start, all the excitement and anticipation had all come down

to this moment. The start was good and the crew had great energy, as a

result we were the first 72 out of the Solent and past Needles.

Skips notes: First 24 at sea

Cracking team who have done nothing than lift spirits and game to the max.

Will send some of Fin's images when get a signal, facebook.com/onefathom

will be the place to view. Chicken madras the first meal afloat went down a

treat with 'dippings' keeping all moving!
